Screening with Bookin in the DANCE:FILM Bites programme

An optimist offers a pessimist a change of perspective, in this live action/animation short, shot in 2 boroughs of New York City with the aim of inspiring people to move more and experience the rush of imagination and joy once their endorphins kick in. Written and directed by Deirdre Towers, this short stars NYC parkour artists Spyder and Upgradee with After Effects animation by Gabrielle Lamb, score by Gisela Fulla-Silvestre, saxophone and flute by Jay Rodriquez, cinematography by Ted Ciesielski and Nadia Lesy.


Deirdre Towers: Director
Deirdre Towers has written for over 12 publications including Dance Magazine where was a staff writer for 5 years and produced the internationally touring Dance On Camera Festival co-sponsored by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Dance Films Association from 1994-2012. She is now making a video for NYPL as part of their exhibit “100 Years of Flamenco in NYC” to be shown April, 15 2013. A teaching artist for City Center, she teaches flamenco in the NYC schools during the Flamenco Festival (2004-2013). She has produced 3 films, most recently the live action/animation film LOCO MOTION, and worked on several music documentaries produced by Peter Rosen. She has a Masters in Arts Administration from New York University, a BA from Hamilton College, with a semester with World Learning studying music and dance in Ghana.
