Screening with rými in the DANCE:FILM Bites programme

"I loved to dance. And I thought that was all I would ever do. I didn't think there was anything else."
The Macushla Dance Club for the over 50s is a motley group from Dublin's rough and tough north inner city, who share a love of dancing. They have climbed out bedroom windows, and sneaked in back doors - to dance. They have danced on pianos, in backyards, up stairs and down cellars - wherever and whenever they could. This is their story.

Their lives are written on Dublin's streets. They've seen buildings go up and fall down, but they have excavated their memories from under car parks, tenements and half-built ruins, to share their loves, losses, but, most of all, their irrepressible joy for life.

Ríonach Ní Néill founded the Macushla Dance Club in 2007, and since then, the club has collaborated with choreographers, visual artists and pop bands in making new dance work.
